Jeuveau is a botulinum toxin type A injection used in the treatment of wrinkles. It’s also sometimes called the new Botox or “Newtox” for short because it’s a new version of the same active ingredient used in original Botox Cosmetic injections.
Both Botox and Jeuveau contain the active ingredient botulinum toxin type A. This is neurotoxin that works by relaxing muscles beneath the skin. When used as a wrinkle treatment, these types of injections create a smoother appearance in the skin. Both Jeuveau and Botox give temporary results, with effects lasting between three to six months. However, people tend to experience longer-lasting results with Jeuveau.
Notably, the proteins in Jeuveau are smaller and more uniform than Botox. Therefore, it may lead to a slightly quicker onset of action for Jeuveau than Botox.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Jeuveau for the treatment of wrinkles in February 2019.
Before receiving Jeuveau injections for frown lines we will have a consultation appointment with you to get an in-depth understanding of your skin concerns and aesthetic need. We will determine how many injections you need, as well as which specific areas of your face to treat. We will review the plan for treatment, discuss the benefits and risks of your treatment, and make sure all of your questions are answered.
During your consultation, your provider will outline a plan they will implement during your treatment session. The procedure for Jeuveau usually consists of the following:
Unlike cosmetic surgery, there’s no downtime needed for wrinkle injections. You may go back to work and resume other activities as normal, although we do recommend not exercising for 24hours post injection.
The effects of botulinum toxin injections will naturally wear off after several months. You will need to schedule a new round of injections to maintain your results every 3-4 months.
